Description
A delicious and melty Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese sandwich made with a garlic butter spread, fresh parsley, and a blend of Gruyere, Colby Jack, and smoked Cheddar cheeses, cooked to golden perfection on a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.
Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter Mixture
- 4 slices sandwich bread (sourdough with soft crust)
- 4 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 3 cloves garlic, very finely minced
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped Italian parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
Cheese
- 1 cup freshly shredded cheese (Gruyere, Colby Jack, and smoked Cheddar blend)
Instructions
- Prepare Garlic Butter Mixture: In a bowl, mix the softened butter, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and chopped parsley until evenly combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble Sandwich: Spread the garlic butter mixture on one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side of one slice, evenly top with the shredded cheese. Place the other slice on top, buttered side facing up.
- Heat Skillet: Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat to ensure slow and even cooking.
- Cook Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes per side. Flip multiple times as needed, gently pressing down to help cheese melt evenly and achieve a golden brown crust on both sides.
- Serve: Once the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted, remove from the skillet. Slice and serve immediately while warm and melty.
Notes
- Freshly grate the cheese for best melting results.
- Pre-packaged cheese slices can be used, choose varieties that melt well like American or Colby Jack.
- Cook on medium-low heat to prevent burning the bread before the cheese melts.
- Flip the sandwich multiple times and press gently during cooking to ensure even heat distribution and melting.
- Use a non-stick skillet or griddle to prevent sticking.
- Cheese substitutions: Swiss, Monterey Jack, Havarti, Gouda, or Muenster.
- Bread substitutions: sandwich bread, sliced brioche, or sourdough.
- Add-ins like roasted garlic cloves, deli meat, caramelized onions, or sliced apples can enhance the flavor.
