Description

Cabbage Steaks are a simple, flavorful, and healthy roasted vegetable dish perfect as a side for any meal. Easy to customize with various toppings and sauces, these vegetarian steaks are a delicious way to elevate humble cabbage.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside for preparation.
  2. Prepare garlic butter mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, butter, and minced garlic until combined and smooth.
  3. Slice the cabbage: Cut the cabbage lengthwise into 1-inch thick steaks. Discard any excess leaves that don’t hold together well.
  4. Season the steaks: Place the cabbage steaks on the lined baking sheet. Brush each steak generously on top with the garlic butter olive oil mixture. Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over the steaks.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cabbage steaks for 30 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown and crisp and the inside is tender.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days once completely cool.
  • To reheat, warm in a preheated oven at 350F/175C for 6-8 minutes or use an air fryer at 375F/190C for 3-4 minutes until heated through.
  • For variations, try toppings such as parmesan cheese, fresh herbs, toasted pine nuts, or toasted pecans for added crunch and flavor.
  • To make vegan, substitute the butter with a vegan butter spread.
  • Serve with sauces like hot honey, garlic yogurt sauce, or spicy mayo for extra flavor.
