Description

A delicious and easy Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Meatballs recipe featuring tender meatballs, colorful bell peppers, and a tangy pineapple sauce slow-cooked to perfection. Perfect for a comforting family meal served with rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (28 oz) bag frozen meatballs
  • 1 (20 oz) can pineapple chunks
  • 1 green bell pepper, roughly chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, roughly chopped

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pineapple Juice: Drain the pineapple chunks from the can, reserving the juice in a cup or bowl for later use.
  2. Layer Ingredients: Place the frozen meatballs into the slow cooker. Top with the drained pineapple chunks and the roughly chopped green and red bell peppers.
  3. Make Sauce: In the reserved pineapple juice, whisk together the brown sugar, white vinegar, ketchup, cornstarch, and soy sauce until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Combine and Cook: Pour the sauce mixture over the meatballs and vegetables in the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on low heat for 5 hours.
  5. Serve: After cooking, serve the sweet and sour meatballs hot, ideally with a side of white rice. Enjoy your meal!

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, stir occasionally during cooking or remove the lid near the end to reduce excess liquid.
  • The dish can also be cooked on high for 3 hours if you’re short on time.
  • Use gluten-free soy sauce to make this recipe gluten free if needed.
  • Frozen meatballs save prep time but fresh meatballs can be used; adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
